New Poviat Hospital in Żywiec

InterHealth Canada is implementing a project to build a hospital in Żywiec under an integrated PPP. The new Poviat Hospital in Żywiec is a unique undertaking, not only because of the great expectations and needs of the region’s residents – it is also the first in years Poviat Hospital in Poland built completely from scratch.

The design of the PPP Hospital in Żywiec is an extremely modern pro-health investment, which will meet high standards, both in technical and architectural terms, taking care of the needs of patients and the comfort of its staff. InterHealth Canada will manage the new hospital for 28 years, and after that time the whole facility will become the property of the Poviat.

Public-private partnerships are contracts between public entities and private sector partners using creative approaches to design, build, finance, operate and maintain public facilities. Such a solution offers a number of tangible benefits, such as:

  • New sources of financing
  • More flexibility to innovate
  • More efficient management
  • Higher return on investment
  • Risk sharing
  • Operational savings

In Żywiec, the PPP agreement was signed between the Żywiec Poviat as a public partner and a private partner – InterHealth Canada, which apart from financing, brings to this project vast experience and knowledge in the aspect of hospital management. It is worth mentioning that Canada is a world leader in PPP in health care. It is currently operating or in the process of implementing more than 100 such projects.

Thanks to PPP, residents of Żywiec will gain access to health services at the world-class level, without incurring additional costs.

New Żywiec Hospital

The hospital will offer all the services that are currently available in the poviat hospital and will gradually expand their scope. In designing the new hospital InterHealth Canada has implemented a number of solutions that will improve the standard of treatment and work.

The new hospital will be located in just one building, with a functional layout of all rooms optimizing the work of medical staff. Besides the possibility to perform the majority of medical tests and health checks under one roof and, if feasible from a medical point of view, even during a single visit (one-stop-shop), the new improvements will also include enhanced healthcare IT systems as well as new high quality nurse and doctor call system.

Taking into account the high expectations associated with the new facility constructed using modern modelling system, a so-called therapeutic environment has been created to provide patients and staff with optimal, friendly conditions for treatment and recovery. One such example is exposure to daylight – hence the unusual large size of the windows, rarely met in Polish hospitals. Bright hospital rooms combined with unique views will help create favorable conditions for patients to recover and improve the working environment for medical personnel.
